This week, The New York Times ran a piece about Disney’s upcoming streaming service. A lot of it is about Ricky Strauss, the dude who has been put in charge of marketing and programming. But there are all kinds of fascinating teases about what we can expect to see on the service. Those of us in a very specific category of nerd found these nine words most exciting: “The Muppets will probably be getting a new series.”
That’s all it says! That’s the whole ball of wax, the whole bowl of fruit, the whole salad. It doesn’t tell us anymore than we previously heard back in February. But it’s still thrilling, because it gives us reason to hope, and to dream of seeing the Muppets getting up to some brand-new tomfoolery on our smart TVs and other such devices. And, once again, it gives us a reason to debate whether a new Muppet show should be a clone of The Muppet Show or not.
