RIP Muppet Show Guest Star Charles Aznavour

We are saddened to learn that season one Muppet Show guest star Charles Aznavour has passed away at the age of 94.

Aznavour, sometimes called “The Sinatra of France,” was a superstar in his native country. He had a recording career that spanned seven decades years, and he wrote hundreds of songs. One of them – “Yesterday When I Was Young” – was sung by Roy Clark on The Muppet Show. he appeared in over sixty films. (Fun fact: his final film role was as the voice of Carl Fredricksen in the French dub of Pixar’s Up!) He was a charismatic performer who held the stage and screen with equal ease.

That magnetism came through in his Muppet Show appearance (which we have reviewed twice) where he wooed Mildred and sang a touching version of “Inchworm.” Sadly, DVD viewers didn’t get to see him woo Mildred, as that number was cut from the official release. I can’t think of a better way to honor Aznavour’s memory than by watching it right now:
