As reported by The New York Times and others, Judge Joseph A. Wapner died on Sunday at the age on 97. Wapner was a real judge, but he was of course best-known as the star of the TV show The People’s Court. That’s what led to his Muppet connection: In 1996 he appeared on the Whoopi Goldberg episode of Muppets Tonight, in a sketch based on the premise that before she was famous, Whoopi Goldberg took Miss Piggy to court over some hairstyling trouble.
