It wasn’t enough for Sesame Street to be recognized with almost a dozen Daytime Emmy Awards (it never really is enough, is it?), but now they’re planning on honoring one of the Street’s longest residents.

Sonia Manzano, best known as Maria on Sesame Street, will receive a Lifetime Achievement Award at this year’s Daytime Emmy Awards ceremony on May 1st.

Unfortunately, this year’s Daytime Emmy Awards will not be televised, so we’ll be sitting at home hoping her acceptance speech will make its way online soon after.

Many many congratulations to Sonia, who seems to have been flourishing since announcing her retirement just a few months ago.  It sort of makes me think that I should retire too, if only to achieve a fraction of the awesomeness of Sonia Manzano.
