Free Comic Book Day, that annual international holiday wherein comic book stores and publishers give readers cool stuff for nothing, is coming up this Saturday, May 7th. As you already know because you read ToughPigs.com and memorize every news post, this year’s free offering from Archaia Comics is a “flip-book” featuring a brand-new Dark Crystal story written by Bryan Holguin on one side and a Mouse Guard story on the other. Mouse Guard is not a Henson property, but it’s written and drawn by David Petersen, whose work on various Muppet comic book covers for Boom! has made him a fan favorite.
You can read a little bit more about the Dark Crystal comic (and check out the first few pages, sans dialogue and color) on the Archaia website.
And if you happen to live in Los Angeles, you might think about going to Meltdown Comics, where Petersen and Holguin will be appearing in person from 11 AM to 3 PM to sign copies of the comic. The Henson Company is also providing two Skeksis statues for folks to take photos with… Presumably Petersen and Holguin are more-pleasant looking so folks will be able to tell the difference. Oh, and get this: They’re also going to have a GRILLED CHEESE TRUCK at the store!
With all this stuff going on, even Aughra could see that this Free Comic Book Day will be a pretty good day for Dark Crystal fans and/or comic book fans in LA. Right? ‘Cause Aughra only has one eye! In the movie! Right?
Click here to wonder whether they have grilled cheese on Thra on the Tough Pigs forum!
