For years, Muppet fans have been juggling different forms of media to view the complete version of Muppet Christmas Carol. Do you watch the Blu-ray, pause at the right moment, shift to the DVD (no, not that DVD release, the other one) to watch “When Love Is Gone” in fullscreen, then finish it up on the streaming version? Finally, our Christmas wish will come true and ease our suffering.
As announced at D23, “When Love Is Gone” – the sometimes absent song from Muppet Christmas Carol – has been restored and will be re-inserted into the film. The newer, fuller version of the movie will be available to stream on Disney+ on December 9th. [NOTE: The previously announced date was December 11th, but this has since been updated.]
We’re still waiting on more details from D23 (stay tuned for our roundup coming soon!), but we’ve also heard that Jodi Benson (the voice of Ariel in The Little Mermaid) graced the stage to sing this classic song. Lovely.
The Muppets also made an appearance at this panel, singing a little bit of “It Feels Like Christmas”. Enjoy this musical moment, and get ready for more Muppet news from D23 shortly!
