The Great Cookie Thief is a literary classic. It’s a timeless tale of crime and punishment, deceit, and googly eyes, and one of the most accurate depictions of life in the Old West ever put to paper. As of this month, it’s also a brand-new app that you can get for your iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch.

Little sleuths will thrill in tracking down the crumb-y feller, building visual identification and observation skills in the process. Young imaginations will be inspired to create unique Wanted Posters using an array of tools specially designed for little artists, including a virtual photo booth, paint brushes, tons of colors, and wild and wacky stickers.
It really is a fun app, and if you’re still not convinced, allow me to point out to you that it includes a husky-voiced male cowboy Anything Muppet who I’m pretty sure is played by Fran Brill. In a remarkable stroke of luck for readers of Tough Pigs, we’ve received nine free download codes for the app from Callaway Digital Arts, the wizards who developed the app with Sesame Workshop. And just as we did not long ago with the Monster at the End of This Book app, we’re going to give them away to nine of you wonderful people. But once again, you’re going to have to work for it.
As you can probably tell even if you haven’t read the book, The Great Cookie Thief focuses on that rascal Cookie Monster being sought for the crime of stealing cookies, and the WANTED poster seen above plays a crucial role in both the story’s narrative and the interactive elements of the app. So here’s what I want you to do: Create a WANTED poster of any Sesame Street character and e-mail it to me at Ryan@ToughPigs.com by Friday, August 3rd.
You can draw something and scan it, you can PhotoShop it, you can even make it in Microsoft Paint. You can make it a popular Muppet character from the show, you can make it an obscure character, or even make it one of the humans. Just create a WANTED poster — and be sure to include the crime that the character is wanted for! Then send it to me at Ryan@ToughPigs.com. If there are more than nine submissions, I’ll pick my nine favorites. If there are exactly nine submissions… congratulations! Everyone gets an app!
Also: Submissions created by children are encouraged, and might just have an edge over those created by adults. On account of cuteness. So get to it! Make a poster and send it to me by August 3rd! There’s a saloon somewhere whose walls are lookin’ mighty bare.
