We are extremely saddened to learn that Valerie Harper, star of The Mary Tyler Moore Show and Rhoda, has passed away.

Although Valerie Harper is best known for her role as TV’s Rhoda Morgenstern, we remember her best as a guest star in the first season of The Muppet Show.

You may remember her singing “Broadway Baby” in the backstage of the Muppet theater.  Or her interaction with Bernie the makeup man (who gives her an egg because [wait for it] he’s the Easter Bernie).  Or her showstopping number, “Nobody Does It Like Me” with the Clodhoppers.  This was also the episode in which Statler leaves his theater box to try and woo Ms. Harper with a fast-growing African berry bush.  If you’re not as familiar with the episode, you’ll likely recall its UK Spot: “Tit Willow” with Rowlf and Sam.

Here’s her dance number with the Clodhoppers, which is definitely a season 1 highlight.

In honor of Valerie Harper, we recommend you pull out your Muppet Show season 1 DVDs and revisit this gem.  Or find some classic Mary Tyler Moore Show episodes.  Or really, anything she’s done.
