Very soon, Muppet fans in the Los Angeles (California) area will be able to see Henson-related puppets, sketches, scripts, and various other artifacts in person, as the touring “Jim Henson Exhibition: Imagination Unlimited” will be making a stop at the Skirball Cultural Center! It’ll be a great opportunity for Angelenos to get up close and personal with Kermit the Frog, Rowlf, Ernie and Bert, Grover, and “other popular favorites.” I assume this means Beautiful Day Monster. You can’t get much more popular than that guy.
This is the exhibition that was organized by the Museum of the Moving Image people, and recently spent some time in Seattle. By all accounts, it’s a great exhibition, so anyone in Los Angeles who can name more than ten Muppets won’t want to miss it. It will be at the Skirball Cultural Center from June 1 to September 2.
There are also some events planned, such as:
- Late-Night! The Jim Henson Exhibition: Imagination Unlimited – Friday, June 1, 6:00–10:00 p.m. Check out the exhibition late at night, with “a DJ set by Timothy Nordwind of OK Go” and “roving puppeteers.”
- The Muppet Movie film screening – Friday, June 29, 8:30 p.m. (Doors at 6:30 p.m.) The movie will be screened outdoors, so this is your chance to experience Carol Kane saying “Yeth?” under the stars.
- Labyrinth film screening – Friday, July 13, 8:30 p.m. (Doors at 6:30 p.m.) If you’ve never seen Labyrinth on the big screen, now’s your chance!
If you want to find out more, Skirball’s website is where it’s at!
