The Happytime Murders Is Selling Itself on the Internet & TV and in Hollywood

The Happytime Murders will be in theaters August 24. That means there are only two weeks until filthy, murderous Henson puppets are unleashed on the world, so the marketing team has been ramping up the promotions in some creative ways. Including, but not necessarily limited to:

A series of gifs on the image-sharing site Imgur. You can find those by clicking here.

Also on Imgur: A series of images riffing on popular memes. You can find those by clicking here. If you can identify the original meme being spoofed by each one: Congratulations, you’re an internet nerd!

A fake dating site called No Strings, featuring characters from the movie. Might you have chemistry with Goofer? Find out by clicking here! This site actually lets you “chat” with the characters when you give them a thumbs-up, which is a fun concept. Although there is a limit to how closely they can emulate a real conversation:

Meanwhile, if you’re in the Hollywood area, this weekend you can “Party with Puppets” at a “one-of-a-kind pop-up tattoo parlor” called the InkHole, located not too far from the Jim Henson Company lot. Apparently, this is an actual live event! According to the website, “Word on the street is The InkHole isn’t just your average ink spot, but start gabbin’ with the right people or puppets and you might find where all the real fun goes down. Rumor has it that in this secret speakeasy you can try your luck at Blackjack, grab a drink at the bar, and enjoy the risqué entertainment on the main stage.”

That’s certainly intriguing. If anyone goes to check that out, let us know how it was! You can register for timed tickets at the InkHole event website over here.

Finally, it seems like there are previews, subway ads, and TV commercials for the movie everywhere we turn these days. It’s worth noting that in at least one TV spot, the the Happytime people are bragging about the fact that the Sesame Street people sued them:
