Jim Henson’s Tale of Sand Optioned for VR Film

Well, that’s quite the headline, isn’t it?

According to Variety, Tale of Sand, the screenplay written by Jim Henson and Jerry Juhl in the 1960s and 1970s, has been optioned to become a film.  But not just any film, a virtual reality film.

We have no idea what that means, but it sounds ambitious and exciting!

The screenplay, which was adapted into a fantastic graphic novel by Archaia with art by Ramón K. Peréz, involves a man racing through a strange desert, pursued by a one-eyed man.  It’s epic and if you haven’t read it, you should absolutely check out the book.

The story has been optioned by virtual reality producer Felix & Paul Studios, and the screenplay will be adapted by Jacob Chase.

Although we recognize that this doesn’t mean we’re guaranteed to get a Tale of Sand film, it’s exciting to think that we may actually get to see Jim Henson and Jerry Juhl’s vision on screen.  And while I’m wary about the VR aspect, if it’s done well, it seems like the sort of experimental element that Jim might’ve tried himself.

Stay tuned for more information about this project as we hear!
