Jim Henson’s epic and classic series The Storyteller holds a special place in our hearts. Not only was it an exciting anthology of fantasy stories, but it also showcased an amazing assortment of Creature Shop creations. And we’ve just learned that it’s coming back.
According to Deadline, The Jim Henson Company has teamed up with legendary author Neil Gaiman to resurrect The Storyteller for a brand new TV series. Gaiman will serve as Executive Producer, and he promises that it will be updated for the “binging viewer”.
Gaiman is no stranger to fairy tales – he’s the author responsible for American Gods, which has more than a little overlap with the themes of The Storyteller. He’s also no stranger to The Jim Henson Company, as they collaborated on the film Mirrormask.
Unfortunately, the original Storyteller – John Hurt – passed away a few years ago, so a new actor will have to take the role. There’s no word on casting yet, or if Brian Henson will reprise his role as the Storyteller’s dog. Likewise, we don’t yet have information on what stories they will be retelling, where the episodes might air, or when it will premiere. But stay tuned, and stay close to the fire, and we’ll report on it as soon as we hear anything.
