Mystery surrounds the latest collaboration between The Jim Henson Company and Archaia Comics. By that, I mean that we have no idea what A Tale of Sand is, but we do know that it was written by Jim Henson and Jerry Juhl, and that’s all that really matters.
BleedingCool.com found out a little more info about the comic, including cover art (seen above), the fact that it will be in stores this September, and the blurb reprinted below:
This is the lost piece of the puzzle for fans of Jim Henson. This is an idea he came up with in the mid to late 50s and worked with Jerry Juhl in scripting a feature length screenplay throughout the late 60s and early 70s.
This is going to be the first thing written by Jim to come out since his death and it?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s going to be something that no one?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s ever seen before. It?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s literally a treasure, it?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s a gem?¢‚Ǩ¬¶ to be able to do it in comic book form is a great honour. The screenplay itself is extremely visual.
The story takes place in the American Southwest. It?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s a very surreal, very trippy, very weird?¢‚Ǩ¬¶ Jim?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s version of the American Southwest, basically?¢‚Ǩ¬¶ the setting is almost a character in the story itself. It?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s a very dark fairy tale parable. It?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s a story about a journey, a journey through the American Southwest, so you?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢re seeing a lot of different landscapes, you?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢re encountering a lot of different characters. It?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s expansive but at the same time what?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s interesting is that it has a lot of the same feelings of loneliness that [Jim’s film] The Cube has.
And there you have it! We’ll keep on posting the news about the anomaly that is A Tale of Sand as we hear it. Thanks to BleedingCool.com for the info!
