We are saddened to learn that actress Beverly Owen has passed away. You may not recognize her name right away, but she has two very strong ties to the Muppet world.
Her first comes from the early years of the Muppets, when Jim Henson was still regularly using his creations in commercials. The ones he created for La Choy, featuring the La Choy Dragon, remains one of our favorites. Beverly Owen starred in one, as the Dragon wreaks havoc in a grocery store.
But that’s not her only link to the Muppet world! Owen was married to Sesame Street writer and director Jon Stone from 1967 to 1974! How’s that for a connection!?
Outside of the Muppets, Owen is best known for her role as Marilyn Munster on The Munsters, which she left after the first season in order to marry Jon Stone and join him in New York City as he helped develop Sesame Street.
We thank Beverly Owen for her links to Sesame Street and the La Choy Dragon, and we will miss her.
