Richard Griffiths, best known for his roles as Uncle Vernon in the Harry Potter films, as well as films such as The History Boys, Gandhi, and Withnail and I, has passed away. Muppet fans know him best as the titular Santa Claus in A Muppets Christmas: Letters to Santa.
In addition to his jolly role as St. Nick, Griffiths provided the voice for the Prostetnic Vogon Jeltz in The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, which featured effects from the Jim Henson Creature Shop (including Griffith’s character).
We’ll miss Richard Griffiths for the memorable characters he created over the years, and we’re proud to count him among the many who have worked alongside the Muppets.
