This, ladies and gentlemen, will be the book cover that graces the upcoming Muppet encyclopedia that will almost certainly be gracing all of our bookshelves. And somehow, we all feel defeated.
I don’t know why Disney can’t be bothered to shoot new photos of their characters, nor do I know why they think that letting the Muppets stare blankly ahead while standing in the white ether of limbo is what best represents the franchise. I don’t know why they insist on using that terrible poser of the Kermit that looks like he just smelled Hobo Joe’s feet, nor do I know why Fozzie’s head looks like he fell into the wrong end of a pencil sharpener. For a book that will surely spotlight hundreds of memorable and obscure characters, Disney chose six really bland posers to showcase what I’m sure will still be a really fun book.
That said, we all know that we’re not looking forward to the encyclopedia for the cover, but for what we’ll find inside. And for that, our hopes remain high. But come on, Disney. Invest in a new camera.
