A nursery-full of info about the new Muppet Babies series just landed! Strap on your overalls, grab your binkie, and get ready.
First off, the show now officially has a premiere date: Friday, March 23. The series will debut two episodes back-to-back at 10am ET on Disney Junior.
Next, the series has already released an official soundtrack! You can listen to it on Spotify, Apple Music, and Amazon.
With the soundtrack also comes the theme song! You can listen to it below (with vocals by Renée Elise Goldsberry), including the video from the opening:
We’ve also learned that there will be lots of Muppet-related guest stars! Confirmed Muppets include Statler and Waldorf, Bunsen and Beaker, Rowlf the Dog, Rizzo and Dr. Teeth. (Dr. Tooth, maybe? Or maybe he’s too young for his doctorate yet.) The soundtrack also reveals a new character named Carlos the Frog, who may be Kermit’s brother or cousin (possibly Robin’s future father?).
The press release also gave us a little more information about the backyard setting:
Set in the vibrant playroom of an urban brownstone with an expansive backyard, the Muppet Babies have everything they need at their fingertips to lead them on their fantastical adventures. The backyard alone is home to Kermit’s bouncy “pond,” Piggy’s dressing room, Summer’s art table, Gonzo’s chicken coop, Fozzie’s stage and a communal treehouse. In every episode, through a rainbow transition, the Muppet Babies use their imaginations to transport them into a fantasy sequence, each with a distinct style ranging from collage, comic book and classic cartoons to live-action footage. While spotlighting the zany comedy that the Muppet Babies are known for, each story is also designed to introduce young viewers to the unique problem-solving power of imagination.
Intriguing!
With just a few weeks to go before the March 23rd premiere, I’m sure we’ll be overloaded with more and more info as the days go on, so stay tuned!
