Join us for a week-long celebration of Muppet performer Fran Brill! Fran recently announced her retirement from performing, so we’re dedicating a week’s worth of articles to her colorful career with Sesame Street and the Muppets.
Fran Brill helped to create some fantastic characters. Some were iconic and lasted decades, like Prairie Dawn and Zoe. Others came and went as a small part of the humungous and diverse family of Muppets, like The Jim Henson Hour‘s Vicki and Elmo’s Mom. And some faded into obscurity and are only loved by Muppet fanatics like you and me, like The Land of Gorch‘s Vazh and the background characters of The Great Santa Claus Switch. And you know what happens when pop culture characters enter the world of fandom, don’t you? They result in fan art.
The following edition of The Mup Art Show was inspired by our first image, illustrated by our resident artist, Smig, when he learned of Fran Brill’s retirement. It led to a search for more fan art of Fran’s characters, and then we realized that Smig may have drawn Prairie Dawn more than any other fan artist! So, many thanks to Smig for helping to fill out this article, and a million thanks to the other artists whose work is represented here.
