On July 19, 1984, Jim Henson and Frank Oz appeared on The Merv Griffin Show to promote The Muppets Take Manhattan. Along with Dabney Coleman, they were the only guests that night.
Kermit and Piggy sang “New York, New York” with Merv, Rowlf the Dog sang “Memory Lane” and “You and I and George”, and Frank brought out Animal and Fozzie Bear for a few special appearances.
Until now, most of us haven’t seen this episode. But thanks to a new DVD box set of Merv Griffin Show episodes, Jim and Frank’s appearance, along with dozens (yes, dozens) of others, is finally available.
Now, here’s the bad part: The 12-disc DVD set is running for $129.98 (as of this time, Amazon has the set on sale for $76.49). That’s a hefty price tag for just one episode, so only a select few will end up with it.
