Bret McKenzie to Helm Emmet Otter Remake

Bret McKenzie is one of those guys who can legitimately do no wrong.  He’s half of the hilarious duo Flight of the Conchords, and he wrote the brilliant (and Oscar winning) songs from The Muppets and Muppets Most Wanted.  So if Bret wants to do more in the world of Muppets, then by gum we should let him.

According to Variety, McKenzie is attached to join the Jim Henson Company for a remake of Emmet Otter’s Jug Band Christmas, which is one of the greatest holiday specials ever made.  Just think if Jim Henson, Paul Williams, and Santa Claus had a baby, and if that baby was an otter.  Yeah, it’s that good.

There’s no word on what form this remake might take.  It could be a film, or a direct-to-TV special, or a stage show, or something else entirely.  There’s also no details about how much of the original special will make it into this production, or if McKenzie will be replacing the iconic music written by the great Paul Williams.

Stay tuned for more details about this exciting project as we hear it!
