RIP Jefferson Airplane’s Marty Balin

Last week, Marty Balin, lead singer for the iconic rock band Jefferson Airplane, passed away at the age of 76. His vocals, along with Grace Slick’s, can be heard on such hits as “Somebody to Love,” “Volunteers,” and “Crown of Creation.”

Like the rest of his band-mates, Balin was interviewed by Jim Henson for Youth 68, part of of NBC’s Experiment in Television, where he nonchalantly brandished a pistol for part of the interview. (The Jim Henson Legacy’s president Craig Shemin mentioned at a recent screening that the pistol was likely a toy.) Part of Balin’s interview can be seen in the clip below.
