We have learned that Bob Kushell, who has served as Executive Producer, co-creator, and showrunner of The Muppets, will be leaving the show.

According to Variety, the change comes due to creative differences with his co-showrunner Bill Prady.

Although his replacement hasn’t been named, reports say that Kristin Newman is in the running.  Newman has previously worked on shows such as Galavant, How I Met Your Mother, Chuck, That ’70s Show, and Everybody Loves Raymond.

On behalf of the Muppet fan community, we want to thank Bob Kushell for his part in bringing the Muppets back into the public eye, and we wish him luck in his next project.

In several reports, this news also comes with the keyword “REBOOT”.  Could we see a complete retooling of The Muppets upon Kushell’s departure?  What could that possibly mean?  More musical numbers?  Getting out of the studio and back onto the stage?  Outer space????  These are just rumors for the moment, but we’ll be keeping our eyes peeled for more clues.
