Veteran Muppeteer Kevin Clash has been in the news lately, and you may have noticed that we at Tough Pigs have refrained from reporting on any of the headlines.  After carefully considering the circumstances, we made the decision to maintain our standing policy of not discussing the personal lives of the Muppet performers.  Our readers and forum members have been very understanding regarding this decision.

However, today’s latest development affects Sesame Street and Muppet fans directly, so it is with great sadness that we report that Kevin Clash, who has been performing on Sesame Street since 1983, has resigned.

Here is Sesame Workshop’s official statement, as reported by The New York Times:

Sesame Workshop’s mission is to harness the educational power of media to help all children the world over reach their highest potential. Kevin Clash has helped us achieve that mission for 28 years, and none of us, especially Kevin, want anything to divert our attention from our focus on serving as a leading educational organization. Unfortunately, the controversy surrounding Kevin’s personal life has become a distraction that none of us want, and he has concluded that he can no longer be effective in his job and has resigned from Sesame Street. This is a sad day for Sesame Street.

We want to thank Kevin for all of his memorable work on Sesame Street, and we leave you with our video interview with the man himself.
