The latest news which should be taken with a grain (or two scoops’ worth) of salt has arrived, and it involves the Muppets, celebrities, a new TV series, and one lost dog.
According to Splash Report, Disney’s upcoming streaming service Disney+ will have a new Muppet series attached, and it will be called “Muppets Live Another Day“.
The show will co-star Josh Gad and is being developed by the talent behind Once Upon a Time. It will take place immediately following The Muppets Take Manhattan, as Kermit disbands the Muppet troupe and then needs to get them back together again (again) to find the missing Rowlf the Dog.
Of course, none of this is confirmed yet, so feel free to speculate along with us! Personally, this sounds like it might be attempting to undo the events of The Muppets and Muppets Most Wanted, which also take place in the post-Manhattan universe. The Muppets also dealt with a disbanded Muppet troupe attempting to get the band back together.
This also sounds like quite a limited premise, both because of the “hunt for Rowlf” aspect, and the need for a star like Josh Gad. Maybe it’s the first in a series of Muppet miniseries, ala Fargo or True Detective? I’d definitely be down for that.
Muppets Live Another Day is rumored to premiere on Disney+ in 2020. Stay tuned for more details (and more rumors) as we hear them!
