Here’s some big news: According to The Hollywood Reporter, 20th Century Fox is developing a new Sesame Street movie.
There are hardly any details so far, but the Reporter article says Sesame head writer/Murray Monster performer Joey Mazzarino will be writing the script, while Shawn Levy will be co-producing. Levy has had some hits with the family-friendly Night at the Museum movies, so I’ll go ahead and bet three dollars right now that he’ll end up directing as well.
The Reporter also says: “It is likely that Sesame Workshop… would be involved in a producer capacity as well.” My reaction: Well, I should hope so.
So now it’s time for the fun part: Rumors and speculation! Which characters will be prominently featured in the movie? Will it be aimed squarely at the young’uns like Elmo in Grouchland, or will it be have a more general-audiences feel like Follow That Bird? Will it even get made? I can’t wait to find out!
