Sea Slug Named After Jim Henson

Jim Henson has been honored in the slimiest way possible.  There is a newly discovered species of sea slug that is now named after the famed creator of the Muppets.

Yep.  We know, we know.

Olea hensoni, as it is now called, was discovered in Florida’s Cedar Key.  The hermaphroditic slug is “solar powered”, meaning that it photosynthesizes its food inside its stomach, and feeds on plants and the eggs of other slugs.

You know, just like Jim Henson.

The slug was apparently named after Jim because it’s green.  And it’s not easy naming slugs, apparently.

You can read more about olea hensoni at Science Daily.
