Michael Frith and Kathy Mullen are two unsung (or, not-nearly-enough sung) legends of Muppet history. As you likely know, Michael Frith designed characters like Fozzie Bear, Dr. Teeth, and the cast of Fraggle Rock, while Kathy Mullen performed as Mokey Fraggle and many characters on The Muppet Show, the Muppet films, and even Star Wars.
The folks at TED must recognize the talent and brilliance in this power couple as well, because they were invited to speak at a recent TED conference in Bermuda. And lucky for us, the videos are online for you to watch and enjoy and learn from!
As you’ll see, Michael Frith’s speech revolves mostly around his upbringing in Bermuda as creative inspiration, and he discusses the Muppets and Fraggle Rock at length, including some tidbits I was not previously aware of (including the secret origin of The Trash Heap!). Kathy Mullen, joined by Johnie McGlade, shares more about No Strings Productions, their non-profit outreach puppet videos they’ve been making for kids in developing countries.
Enjoy the videos, folks!
