Wouldn’t it be great if you could ask your Alexa or Google or toaster oven to tell you a joke, and then out pops the voice of Fozzie Bear with a classic groaner?
Apparently the folks at Disney had the same query, because that’s pretty much what’s happening! The “Disney Magical Companion” is a new and/or upcoming service on the Amazon Echo in which you’ll be able to say “Hey Disney”, and then ask it to set a timer, ask about the weather, or ask for a recipe for dragonfly ripple ice cream. You know, just like all those other digital assistants.
The catch is that “Hey Disney” will conjure up a random Disney character to help with your troubles. Characters like Dory from Finding Nemo, Olaf from Frozen, Mater from Cars, as well as Mickey, Minnie, and Groot have all been confirmed. Fozzie Bear and Animal from the Muppets will also have their voices captured and stuffed into the device. That’s how machines work, right?
According to The Verge, the device was on display at the CES expo, which may mean it’s likely still in development, but close for wide release. But also, according to the Disney Parks website, the Disney Magical Companion is already in use at their resorts.
So whether you hope to get a wake-up call from Animal or to get directions to your closest honey dispensary from Fozzie, this could be coming to your home very soon!
