Jim Henson’s classic film The Dark Crystal has been adapted for several different media. There are novels, comic books, and video games, but we never would’ve expected it to grace the stage as a ballet.
The Royal Opera House in London has defied all expectations by adapting The Dark Crystal for the stage with The Royal Ballet. The performance will be choreographed by Wayne MacGregor, and will feature puppet creations by The Jim Henson Company’s Creature Shop.
We don’t yet know exactly when this performance will be staged, but it is scheduled for the 2021/2022 season. The Royal Opera House does stream select performances, so we will hold out hope that the Dark Crystal ballet will be accessible for audiences worldwide.
