A movie like The Dark Crystal is so epically visual, it’s easy to forget that there’s more than amazing puppet design and talented puppeteers. There are also voice actors who helped bring the characters to life.
We are saddened to learn that one of those voice actors is no longer with us. Barry Dennen, who provided the “Mmmmmms” of the Chamberlain Skeksis (as well as a Podling) has passed away.
In addition to his work on The Dark Crystal, Dennen can be seen in films such as Jesus Christ Superstar, Fiddler on the Roof, Superman III, Trading Places, and Titanic.
Especially in these times of celebration of The Dark Crystal, being the film’s 35th anniversary, we salute the Chamberlain himself, Barry Dennen.
