Everyone loves those felt-and-fur Muppet characters from Sesame Street. But haven’t you ever wondered what it would be like if they were computer-animated instead? And also if they were some kind of robots?
That appears to be the premise of Mecha Builders, an upcoming HBO Max series. According to Animation Magazine, the new show will star “favorite Sesame Street characters as heroes in a robot-animation style,” and it’s beginning production this month, with Sesame Workshop collaborating with Guru Studio, the producer of Paw Patrol.
In my day, Cookie Monster was just a monster (and occasionally a public television anthology drama host), and that was good enough for us, so I must confess I’m a little bit baffled by this. But if it gets my preschool-age nephews as excited about the Sesame Street characters as they are about Paw Patrol, that can’t be a bad thing.
