This weekend saw the first ever Children and Family Emmy Awards ceremony. It was particularly interesting because productions featuring the Disney-owned Muppets, Sesame Street, and Fraggle Rock were all up for nominations. And guess what? They each won something! That’s definitely a first.
Here are the Henson-related winners:
- Outstanding Writing for a Preschool Animated Program – Muppet Babies
- Outstanding Original Song – “Friends with a Penguin” from Sesame Street
- Outstanding Art Direction/Set Decoration/Scenic Design – Muppets Haunted Mansion AND Fraggle Rock: Back to the Rock
- Outstanding Preschool Series – Sesame Street
In addition to the awards, the ceremony also featured appearances by those involved in the above productions. Alan Muraoka and Martin Robinson took to the stage to honor their long-time Sesame colleagues Emilio Delgado and Bob McGrath, who were then shown in the evening’s “In Memoriam” segment (which also featured Sesame Street songwriter Stephen Lawrence).
Gobo and Red Fraggle also appeared to help present an award, and close out the evening with a performance of “Magic Be With You” with Jack McBrayer.
Congrats to all the winners!
