We are saddened to learn that country music superstar Loretta Lynn has passed away. The Grammy Award winner wrote and recorded several memorable songs such as “You Ain’t Enough Woman (To Take My Man),” “Don’t Come Home A-Drinkin’ (With Lovin’ on Your Mind),” and “One’s On the Way.” She was also the subject in the film Coal Miner’s Daughter, based on her own life story.
In addition to all of her accolades, Loretta Lynn also appeared in one of the most memorable episodes of The Muppet Show, in which the Muppet Theater is being fumigated, so the entire episode takes place at a train station.

The Jim’s Red Book entry about this episode reveals that Lynn had a terrific time filming her Muppet Show episode. She wrote the following in a letter to Jim Henson thanking him:
I just wanted to say thank you for being such a wonderful host to me and Doo when we did your show…even though you did spend most of your time running away from us on the trains and being chased by all them dogs and such. Fozzy (sic) and Floyd and Scooter and Gonzo all done a real good job and I guess that’s probably cause you’re such a good leader. Anytime you’re in Nashville, I got this terrific big pond that you’d just love down at the house. Just watch out for the ducks!
It doesn’t get much more charming than that.
Beyond her time on The Muppet Show, Lynn also worked with the Sesame Street gang a few times. Here she is singing “Count With Me” with The Count in 1981:
And she returned to the Street to sing “Songs Are for Singing” in 1985:
Loretta Lynn was truly a country music legend, and we’re so glad to count her among those worthy of such a strong Muppet connection.
