Jerry Nelson has given so much to the puppetry world. His countless Muppet characters, numerous songs, and memorable performances have inspired a generation of puppeteers to follow in his footsteps. Even now after his passing, he continues to give back via the Jerry Nelson Scholarship.
We received a note from Jean Marie Keevins, the Associate Artistic Director and Scholarship Director at the National Puppetry Conference. Jean tells us that the NPC is struggling to keep Jerry’s scholarship, and they are asking donors to consider giving a few dollars to this worthy cause.
Below, you’ll find the National Puppetry Conference’s message about the scholarship:
Every year the National Puppetry Conference at the Eugene O’Neill Theater Center’s JERRY NELSON SCHOLARSHIP helps to financially support 1-3 deserving participants who best demonstrates the qualities of Puppeteer Jerry Nelson with a scholarship named in his honor. This year, scholarship coffers have run out and without new donations, the Jerry Nelson Scholarship will not be awarded in 2016. It is with this in mind that we come to you, the very people that Jerry entertained for so many years.
Would you please consider supporting this scholarship with tax-deductible donation? No amount is too big or too small. Your donation will help to subsidize tuition for a puppeteer who has a special interest in character and vocal development of puppet performances.
