I do hope you’re not afraid of monsters, because for the next month, you are going to see a lot of them! Oh, no, no, not because of Halloween! What a silly mix-up! No, it’s because Sesame Street is doing a lot of promotion for their new monster-centric special!
The Monster at the End of This Story will be premiering exclusively on HBO Max on October 22nd. As you might divine from the title, it’s based on the post-modern classic book starring lovable, furry old Grover. The special will be unique in that it will be the show’s first fully-animated special. I hope this means we’ll get some sort of Road Runner/Coyote chase between Grover and Mr. Johnson.
But wait, there’s more! Sesame Workshop has a “#FurryMonsters” campaign with a bunch of neat stuff to go along with the special. First and foremost is this charming little animated short starring Grover and Elmo (presumably in the same style as the upcoming special):
Next, Sesame plans on putting some new merchandise, mainly new editions of The Monster at the End of This Book that have lift-the-flap do-dads, sound-making ka-jiggers, and even prints that will be personalized to your name. Grover will know my name! They have also announced a new digital album with songs from the show, and a series of “Monster Memes,” perfect for conveying how much you like taking naps and such.
Last, but not least, there is the new online game Monsterize Me, in which you can turn yourself or your friends into lovable furry monsters! For example, here’s what our own Ryan and Joe might approximately look like as monsters:
Give it a try and see what you look like covered with fur! And don’t forget to catch The Monster at the End of This Story on HBO Max next month!
