It has been announced that Steve Youngwood has stepped down as CEO of Sesame Workshop.

Youngwood joined the Sesame Workshop staff as COO in 2015, then accepted the position of CEO in 2021. Youngwood also sat on the Board of Trustees, which he will also be vacating. After just a few short years at the helm, he’s leaving Sesame Workshop, which will be temporarily filled by Sesame Workshop President Sherrie Westin while the company searches for their next leader.

Over the past few years, we at ToughPigs have been extremely critical of some of Sesame Workshop’s practices. From Sesame Street NFTs to using the characters in advertising, as well as questioning their creative choices and the uncertain future of Sesame Street’s relationship with Warner Bros, we’ve raised a lot of eyebrows in their direction. Seeing as most of these events occurred under Youngwood’s tenure as CEO, we are hopeful that their next staffing change will be a positive one.
