A menagerie of new Jim Henson Company puppet characters can currently be seen at the Philadelphia Zoo, as part of a “live multimedia presentation,” which sounds kind of like a PowerPoint slide show but isn’t. It’s called X-tink-shun: A Wild Puppet X-perience, and it runs from April 9 through October 31.
The Henson Company has built a group of animal characters (who would look right at home on The Animal Show) who will appear in “live theatrical puppet presentations” in various places around the zoo to deliver their message, which is basically: Don’t let animals go extinct. There will also be a parade featuring an original theme song and these cool hippos:
The idea that the animals themselves are putting on this whole production is fun, although maybe they should have run spell check before they finalized the title. The cast includes a dodo, a tiger, a cheetah, and a langur. What’s a langur? I guess I’ll have to go to the Philadelphia Zoo and find out. If you can’t make it to Philadelphia, you can click here for full coverage and behind-the-scenes footage from the local ABC affiliate, which has been posted on YouTube by the equally nifty fansite Muppet Musings.
Click here to tell me I should just Google “langur” already on the Tough Pigs forum!
