For years and years and years, we’ve toyed with the idea of selling t-shirts through ToughPigs. But there’s one innate problem: We don’t own the Muppets.
I know, I know. That’s an unforgivable sin as it is. We’re working on it. But the truth is that although we write about Muppets all day and every day, the fact that we don’t have a licensing deal with Disney, Sesame Workshop, or The Jim Henson Company means that we could get into a lot of legal trouble if we try and sell stuff featuring their intellectual properties.
So we’d always erred on the side of caution (we legit can’t afford to get sued… please don’t sue us). Until now.
We opened an online ToughPigs TeePublic store!
As our last big hurrah for our 20th anniversary celebration, we decided to go ahead and start selling some merchandise. As you’ll see, none of the images feature any copyrighted material, and nothing fully owned by Muppets or Sesame or Henson. That means our iconic logo, which features Miss Piggy, will not be sold at this time. BUT we do have another unrelated pig who once adorned our front page! And her reporter frog friend! And others!
You’ll also find a t-shirt with the Muppet Wiki logo, donated to us by the generous Muppet Wiki administrative team. And a t-shirt with the logo from our hit podcast Movin’ Right Along, which is about as close as you’ll get to getting a shirt with a Muppet on it.
And it’s not just t-shirts! You’ll be able to get any of our cool new designs on mugs, stickers, magnets, phone cases, and more.
In our never-ending desire to not be sued, you’ll find a bunch of fun designs featuring our website name (that’s “ToughPigs“, spelled like it sounds) in various designs. Some are designed similar to some other logo styles you may have seen in the world (although any similarities are purely, probably coincidental).
We’ll be adding more designs as we create them, so keep an eye on our shop and our social media!
All of the proceeds (which, let’s be honest, probably won’t be a whole lot) will be going right back into this website, helping to pay for our recent website redesign and ongoing hosting fees.
