Certain as the sun rising in the East, you can bet each year there’ll be a brand-new season of Sesame Street waiting for you at some point in time. And that time is now! Season 52 of the show is premiering on HBO Max on Thursday, November 11!
This season continues season 51’s curricular goal of “playful problem solving,” so I hope you liked hearing the phrase “I wonder, what if, let’s try!” every other minute. The season also features some storylines connected to the show’s recent “Coming Together” initiative about racial justice. Additionally, seven of the new street stories were filmed on-location (to allow for safer, open-air filming amidst the pandemic), including a five-episode arc set at the Harvest Moon Farm and Orchard in New York. It’s been many moons since they’ve done something like that, so I look forward to seeing the Muppets out and about in the real world once again.
Season 52 also brings Elmo’s new puppy Tango into the main cast, who we were introduced to in an animated special over the summer. In addition to appearing in Muppet form, the two will be starring in a new recurring animated segment – “Elmo & Tango’s Mysterious Mysteries.” Hmm, an animated program involving a “shaggy” fellow and his pet dog solving mysteries, whose origins date back to 1969? Sounds vaguely familiar…
And what season of Sesame Street would be complete without celebrity guests? This season, the street will be visited by the likes of Jon Batiste, Billie Eilish, Amanda Gorman, Astronaut Dr. Mae Jemison, Kacey Musgraves, Naomi Osaka, Anderson .Paak, and Keke Palmer. Man, I wish an astronaut would come and hang out on my stoop.
Finally, watch this short preview reel of the new season, and don’t forget to check it out on November 11!
