RIP Follow That Bird’s Sally Kellerman

We’re saddened to learn that veteran film actress Sally Kellerman has passed away.

Sally Kellerman is best known to Muppet fans as the voice of the antagonistic (yet well-meaning) social worker Miss Finch from the classic film Follow That Bird. She brought a gravitas and a slight creepiness to the character that terrified children in a kid-safe sort of way. It really is a truly inspired performance.

Several years later, Kellerman would work with The Jim Henson Company once more. This time as a pteranodon on an episode of Dinosaurs. Kellerman’s character adopted Baby Sinclair, only to reveal that she planned to feed him to her children.

Aside from her Muppet connections, Kellerman was best known for her role as Margaret “Hot Lips” Houlihan in the 1970 film M*A*S*H (a role that would later be performed on television by Muppet Show guest star Loretta Swit). She also appeared in films such as Back to School and television series such as Maron.

We thank Sally Kellerman for a lifetime of memorable work and for being a vital part of an incredible Sesame Street film.
