Okay! Now that that Avengers: Age of Ultron nonsense is out of the way, we can get to the real motion picture event of summer 2015. That’s right, today is the day the Caroll Spinney documentary I Am Big Bird begins its release.
Today, May 5th, the film becomes available on cable VOD — and it’s even more easily accessible on iTunes. You can get it on iTunes by clicking right here.
If you have a little bit more patience than that and you live in a major city, you might want to go see it in a movie theater, which is the way we used to go see new movies back in my day. Tomorrow, May 6th, the movie opens at the IFC Center in New York City, and Mr. Spinney himself will be there for Q&As on Wednesday & Thursday after the 7:15 PM showings, on Friday after the 7:25 PM showing, and on Saturday after the 5:15 PM showing. So if you’re in the area, you’re going to want to go to one of those… or go to all of them!
After that, the movie will be rolling like Big Bird on his unicycle into a slew of cities throughout May and June. You can find the complete list of screenings here, on the official I Am Big Bird website.
That’s a lot of ways to see it, so you have no excuse not to. And don’t forget, most of your friends and family don’t know Caroll’s life story already, and they don’t know how the puppet works, and they don’t know who Kermit Love was. So the movie is a perfect opportunity to gather them together for a really lovely movie-viewing experience.
You can read our review of the movie here. And if it’s been a few days since you watched the trailer, you can do that here.
