Disney fans across the world have been embracing the new and exciting fad of DisneyBounding. What is this strange word I’ve introduced into your lexicon?? Our friend Tiffany Sutton (aka @followtheyellowbrickgirl on Instagram) – an extremely talented and devoted DisneyBounder – gave us the scoop:
DisneyBounding is a term that was coined by Leslie Kay who runs the official DisneyBound account on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter. Disneybounding is a term for dressing like your favorite Disney character using your own style or fashion. It isn’t cosplay or even closet cosplay because the outfits do not have to be literal or exact. They just use color blocking to match the color pallet of the Disney character you want to dress as. Since they are just fashion outfits, it does not have to be done specifically in a Disney park. You can wear them to work or just casually around the house.
There’s an official DisneyBound Challenge every March that Leslie runs where people try to DisneyBound every day in the month. She’s recently been asking people to cohost weekly themes with her. She asked my friend Erika (@erikaenchanted on Instagram) and I to host a week. We both love and grew up with Jim Henson, so we thought it would be fun to do a week themed to his work. People often dress as Muppets, but we wanted to remind people that he’s more than just Muppets and celebrate his other work too. That’s why we used the hashtag #MoreThanMuppets.
Thanks Tiffany! As you can imagine, we were floored by the creations made by these Bounders. Some outfits were subtle, some were loud, others were spot-on Muppet replicas. Check out the examples below to see how fans can celebrate their love of the Muppets with thoughtful outfit choices.
