Picture this: it’s Saturday night, it’s raining, and you and your friends are looking for something to occupy your time. Suddenly, a random thought enters your mind. You asks your pals, “Say, have you ever wondered what it would be like to kill Fozzie Bear with a random object in a random room of a fancy house?” Your friends reply, “Of course, but there’s no way we can do that!” Suddenly, your landline rings. On the other end is none other than Mr. Hasbro, owner of Hasbro Games! He tells you he’s overheard your woes through the secret recording device planted in your Game of LIFE spinner, and he’s got the perfect solution for you – Muppets Clue!
Hark! But this is no hypothetical situation. It’s the real deal! Hasbro will be releasing a Muppet-themed version of Clue sometime this year. There’s no announced date yet, but some sites are reporting late Q3 release and even later this August, with a price of $44.99. So keep your eyes peeled, and not just because there may be an aristocrat trying to bludgeon you with a candelabra in the library.
Now, unlike regular Clue, none of the Muppets are actually getting brutally murdered. In the game, the Muppets are merely putting on a murder mystery. Sad to report that there does not appear to be a Liza Minnelli game piece included. Oh well, can’t have everything!
Instead of Liza, you’ll get to play as Kermit, Fozzie, Miss Piggy, Gonzo, Sam the Eagle, and the Swedish Chef. The game’s box art also shows Animal and Uncle Deadly, so there may be other characters sprinkled throughout.
The game takes place in the Muppet Theatre, so there are plenty of locations to commit crimes in – the Reception Area, Supply Closet, Music Studio, Muppet Labs, Dressing Rooms, Kermit’s Desk, The Stage, The Canteen, and Prop Room. See if you can spot a certain one-eyed feline!
As for murder objects, they’ve not fully been shown in the preview images. But, from what I can make out, they appear to be based on past Muppet films and specials, including a sword from Muppet Treasure Island, the “Floating Candelabra” from Muppets Haunted Mansion, Marley and Marley’s chains from The Muppet Christmas Carol, and Gonzo’s Plumbing Artiste Statue from The Muppet Movie. I do hope Miss Piggy’s cement truck from The Great Muppet Caper also makes the cut!
UPDATE: Wanna know more about Muppet Clue? Good news: there’s going to be an entire panel dedicated to the game at this year’s D23 Expo! Check it out on August 10th at 3:00pm at the event.
Stay tuned for further updates and be careful! You never know who will be sending you a singing telegram!
