The Muppets Mayhem is on the horizon! I can barely make out the top of Dr. Teeth’s hat over that ridge. It’s so close, I can almost taste it. And it tastes like patchouli and hemp.
Yesterday, we shared our first images from the new Muppet series, and it’s just so great seeing the band back together. And now we’re excited to share our own EXCLUSIVE image from The Muppets Mayhem! Enjoy this never-before-seen pic of the band in their funkadelic van!
Get ready to see a whole lot of that van once The Muppets Mayhem drops on Disney+!
Speaking of the Electric Mayhem’s van, we got a long look at it just a few months ago. Need some proof? I’d be happy to oblige!
Yes, that’s me on the set of The Muppets Mayhem, enjoying watching the Muppet team film a scene for the new show. I hitchhiked, bused, and yellow cabbed-it to Hollywood just to see the Mayhem in the furry flesh.
Naturally, I can’t talk much about what I saw – you’ll see it all soon enough. But I can tell you that the Muppet performers spent almost the entire day stuffed below the floorboards of that bus, along with stars Lilly Singh and Tahj Mowry. They even sang an original song in that scene! And it went a little something like this…
Just kidding, I can’t reveal that. Also, I don’t even remember how it goes. But I do remember that it was a toe-tapper!
Muppets Mayhem was filmed on the same set as The Office, complete with the same exterior to the Dunder-Mifflin building (this time, actually used as a parking lot.) The set inside was obviously completely different, but the feeling of comedy brilliance wafted through the halls as if the ghost of Michael Scott was blessing this new production.
While on set, I did my best to get the scoop on what this show would entail, and whether or not it’ll be a new Muppet classic. Everyone was in agreement that the series is a blast to film, and that they expect the energy, humor, and fun on set to be reflected on screen. There were also rumblings about course-correcting from some other recent Muppet productions, and really focusing on delivering a quality project.
I also got to visit the puppet trailer where the Muppets were being stored. Spoilers galore in there! I can’t say who or what I saw, but I did see a few familiar faces (whom I was told may or may not actually be in the series… intriguing) and a few new ones. I can’t wait for you to see those – at least one of them is going to absolutely wreck the internet.
I also got the chance to chat with three of the human stars – Lilly Singh, Tahj Mowry, and Saara Chaudry. As you’d imagine, they were all extremely friendly and excited to be a part of a Muppet project. Tahj in particular was geeking out over getting the opportunity to hang with the band every day. It won’t be much of a stretch for him to play the role of the super fan.
Unfortunately, even through a day’s worth of filming, I only witnessed about a minute of content, so I can’t speak much to how good the show might be. However, what I did see what fun, and if the on-set vibes are any indication, I’m feeling pretty optimistic.
All said and done, I wish I could’ve stayed on set longer. If I had, who knows what might’ve happened? Maybe I could’ve been the newest member of the Electric Mayhem? Nah, that’d just be crazy.
Many thanks to Disney for bringing us on set and for all these wonderful photos!
