We all saw it coming. After Roger Langridge’s announcement that Boom Studios may not be publishing the Muppet franchise comics anymore, we assumed that Marvel Comics (who, like the Muppets, are owned by Disney) would be picking up the reins. And it looks like that’s true.
Announced earlier today, Marvel Comics will be reprinting Roger Langridge’s first Muppet Show Comic Book arc, “Meet the Muppets” this July. Interestingly, the comic will be under the “Disney ?¢‚Ǩ¬¢ Muppets Presents” banner, so it seems that the comic might be rebranded to reflect the Muppet/Marvel ownership.
Also interesting is that the comic will be reprinted in “Giant-size comic dimensions”, which is 8?¢‚Ǩ¬ù x 10 ?Ǭæ?¢‚Ǩ¬ù, much larger than Boom’s digest-sized collection. It will also come at the super-cheap price of $5.99, so you’ll pretty much have no reason not to buy it.
But the questions remain: Will we be seeing new Muppet material from Marvel, or should we be prepared for a few more rounds of reprints first? And what are the odds that we’ll see Roger Langridge’s final Muppet Show arc on the stands? Time (and, I dunno, Wolverine?) will tell.
