Willie Nelson has sung “Rainbow Connection.” Kermit the Frog has definitely sung “Rainbow Connection.” But on Thursday night, the two legends finally got to perform the iconic song together.

The pair duetted on the tune during the Luck Reunion concert in Nelson’s ranch/performance venue of Luck, Texas, northwest of Austin. With a little help from banjo virtuoso, ToughPigs documentary host, and all around good egg Lucas Ross, Kermit proved a wonderful partner for Willie, and the crowd was enthralled, as evidenced by all the cheering and hollering.

Nelson first performed “Rainbow Connection” in 2001 for his album of the same name. In the same year, he was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame, where Kermit appeared at the ceremony. Fifteen years later, the music icon met the Muppets’ resident band, The Electric Mayhem, on The Muppets episode “Generally Inhospitable,” where they sang one of his signature songs, “On the Road Again.” After all these years, it feels like a homecoming to have arguably two of the most famous figures to sing “the song “Rainbow Connection” finally perform it together.
