The following article was written by the artist himself: James V. Carroll! Many thanks to James for sharing his incredible art and story with us!
I’m thrilled to finally share this completed series of 25 illustrations celebrating Muppet Musicians and Musical Moments! These drawings began as a “whispering campaign”—my secret attempt to help a certain toy company with their Electric Mayhem character designs. I’ve done similar work for other companies before, but this one didn’t quite pan out. Still, once I’d drawn the Mayhem crew, I liberated the theme a bit and rocked on.
Each drawing was scribbled on the go and is part of my Dayjob Doodles series (an effort to productively expel any extra energy from my ADHD and give my coworkers some peace). They weren’t intended to be polished pieces, but Muppet fans seemed to like them, so I scanned them and gave each one a digital spit-shine. Ten of these are debuting here on ToughPigs – the site that has been extremely generous to me over the years. No matter what’s going on in the world, the hardworking staff here always brightens it.
In a bit of extra news: I’m beginning to assemble a catalog of past non-limited edition work, including this series. That means all of these images are now available as hand-signed prints with holiday pricing through my website.
I’d also like to announce that in a few weeks, for the first time ever, I will begin doing a few hand drawn commissions starting at $85 for the first couple of hours’ work (black and white or color with other negotiable requests). Spaces are very limited. You may contact me about both prints and commissions through jvcarroll.com for more details.
If you haven’t already, I encourage y’all to check out the Gallery1988 online Raised by Rainbows exhibit organized by amazing illustrator Luke Flowers. I have two pieces available as do some phenomenally talented artists, including ToughPigs contributors Dave Hulteen, Kenny Durkin, and many more.
Two bonus creations from James Carroll!
