Brian and Wendy Froud have a strong shared history with The Jim Henson Company. Their iconic designs helped to define the worlds of The Dark Crystal, Labyrinth, and Age of Resistance. Anytime we see the words “Froud” and “Henson” anywhere near each other, we know it’s important to take notice.
According to Variety, the Frouds are once again teaming up with The Jim Henson Company for a new series, in collaboration with Amazon MGM Studios and the Frouds’ son Toby Froud (who is an expert puppet designer and former Labyrinth baby). The series will be called Faerie, inspired by Brian and Wendy’s collection of faerie illustrations.
The description of the series is as follows: “When the Faeries kidnap an unsuspecting father, his family must venture into the Faerie realm to rescue him. Through their journey, they will discover their inner strength and unique potential, challenging the expectations that the human world has put upon them. At its core, Faerie is a story of perseverance and the strength of a family’s love, filled with magic, adventure, and self-discovery at every age.”
We don’t yet know if this series will feature new puppet creations or animation, but knowing the history of all the parties involved, we obviously hope to see this project come to life through practical effects.
As this project is still in development, anything can happen. Things change, ideas evolve, and the entertainment industry is always in flux. But keep an eye on ToughPigs as news continues to be revealed about Faerie and the Froud family!
