What a bummer.
The Muppets Mayhem – the Muppets’ best TV series in decades (in this writer’s humble opinion) has been axed. And no, I don’t mean that like a “cool way to say ‘guitar'” sort of way.
According to TVLine, the series has come to an end after just one season. While we’re extremely happy to have had ten terrific episodes focusing on some beloved Muppet characters who rarely get the spotlight, we were even more excited to see what else this creative team could do with them.
Throughout the season, we learned a lot about Dr. Teeth’s backstory and parentage, we found out what makes the band a cohesive family, and what it’s like being both relevant and out-of-touch in the modern music industry. It had new character while avoiding an overuse of familiar ones, clever celebrity cameos, killer music, and oh yeah – it led to the Electric Mayhem’s first real-life album. Incredible
Without a second season, we’re left with so many questions! Who put Baby Animal on Floyd’s doorstep? Where’s Janice’s sister? Will the band ever go on a real tour?
While I hope we can get some non-canonical answers from the creative team someday, we’re very sad that we won’t be seeing the continuing saga of the Electric Mayhem on our television screens. And more importantly, we hope this doesn’t mean that Disney+ is questioning their commitment to the Muppets brand.
Stay tuned for more Muppets Mayhem news as it arises.
