We are saddened to learn that movie legend Teri Garr has passed away. Garr is best known for appearing in films such as Tootsie, Mr. Mom, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, and Young Frankenstein. Slightly below that was when she popped by Sesame Street to learn how to be a Grouch.

In 1986, Teri Garr appeared in Sesame Street episode #2223 as “Amelia”, a student in Oscar the Grouch’s New School for Grouch Research. She learns how to say “Blecch” and how to throw a Grouch party, followed by an ill-fated graduation ceremony.

You can portions of Teri Garr’s Sesame Street appearance right here:

As you just saw, Teri Garr brought her innate likeability and comedy chops to hold her own against Oscar. And she walked away with a bachelor’s degree for all her hard work. Sort of.

We’re grateful that Teri Garr had such a memorable moment on Sesame Street, and that we can count her among the worthy talent who’ve crossed paths with the Muppets.
